Hi there,
Welcome back to ‘Hey Coach Darren’ – the advice column where I’ll be sharing my top three tips on a different topic each week, inspired by real-life scenarios from our current members (and you)!
A solid morning routine that sets a positive tone for the day can be amazing for overall health and well-being. But unfortunately, many people struggle with feeling rushed and stressed in the mornings before they even begin their daily tasks!
Even if you have a great morning routine that you stick with, there’s no doubt that this FitTRAC member’s scenario has happened at least once to us all! Let’s dive into how to have the best morning possible:
“Hi Coach Darren, I’ve been struggling to find a morning routine that works for me. I often wake up feeling rushed and stressed, which affects my entire day.
For example, just the other day, I woke up later than planned and had to skip my usual breakfast, which threw off my schedule and left me feeling unprepared for the day ahead. I’ve heard that having a structured morning routine can help, but I’m not sure where to start.
What are some practical tips for creating a morning routine that promotes health and sets a positive tone for the day?”
Establishing consistent morning habits can boost your productivity and improve your mood throughout the day. Here are three tips to help make that happen:
Prioritize Hydration and Nutrition: Start your day by hydrating your body. Drinking a glass of water first thing in the morning helps kickstart your metabolism and rehydrates your body after a night’s sleep.
Follow this up with a nutritious breakfast that includes a balance of protein, healthy fats, and carbohydrates. Avoid sugary cereals and opt for whole foods like eggs, oatmeal, fruits, and nuts.
If you’re pressed for time, consider quick but nutritious options like a smoothie with spinach, banana, and protein powder, overnight oats prepared the night before, or a yogurt parfait with granola and berries. A healthy breakfast fuels your body and mind, providing the energy you need to tackle the day.
Incorporate Physical Activity: Physical activity in the morning can boost your energy levels and improve your mood. As a FitTRAC member, you have access to our morning workout sessions, which are small group, joint-friendly fitness classes. These sessions are designed to kickstart your day with a burst of energy while being gentle on your joints.
If you’re short on time, even a quick 10-minute routine can make a significant difference. Choose a class that fits your schedule and/or ask your coach to help with that or providing you with a quick workout you can do on your own.
Consistency is key, so make these sessions a non-negotiable part of your morning routine to enjoy the benefits of improved focus and physical well-being throughout the day.
Practice Mindfulness and Set Intentions: Taking a few minutes for mindfulness can help you start your day with clarity and focus. This could be through meditation, deep breathing exercises, or journaling.
Spend 5-10 minutes reflecting on your goals for the day and setting positive intentions. This practice can reduce stress and increase your overall sense of well-being. Writing down your intentions or a to-do list can also help you stay organized and on track.
Remember, building a morning routine takes time and patience, but the benefits to your health and well-being are well worth the effort. Embrace each day with intention, and watch as these small changes lead to a healthier you.
